During the ascent to periscope depth by Dallas to engage Red October, when aggressively pressed by Jack Ryan, Commander Bart Mancuso orders Mr. Thompson to, "Call Chief Watson to the Conn, with his side arm!". Mr. Thompson simply responds with a snap of the fingers. No officer, especially one of the line, would ever acknowledge a direct order from the Captain with an arbitrary snap of the fingers.
