Base jumping from a building, you would reach 50% of your terminal velocity in roughly 3 seconds. Flynn jumps backwards and holds it for 4 seconds, then rolls over, then falls a bit more, then opens a pull cord at roughly 7 seconds, with no pilot chute, which looks good on camera, but would certainly end up killing him because he opened his chute too late.
