John tells the T-800 that his dog's name is Max, but the Terminator refers to it as Wolfie when he is on the phone with John's foster parents. He does this on purpose, as the real foster parents would know the dog's correct name. The fact that his mother doesn't correct him proves to the Terminator that he is in fact talking to the T-1000.
