John Wayne's Crockett came to Texas because he was 'looking for something. I didn't know what,' and was forced to trick his fellow Tennesseans to join the Texian-cause and fight after they arrive in Bejar. Historically, Crockett and his company had come to Texas specifically to enlist and serve in hopes of starting new lives. Crockett, and many in his company, formally enlisted in Volunteers Auxiliary Corps in January 1836 before heading to San Antonio.
