Blofeld shows James Bond and Madeleine a meteorite and states that this is "the very meteorite that made this crater." It may seem that this is impossible as a meteorite is mostly vaporized at the moment of impact because of the tremendous energy which is nearly instantaneously dissipated at the point of impact. This happened at the Meteor Crater in Arizona: a number of people thought they would find an iron mine at the bottom of the crater and came up empty.However, the explosion can send fragments of the meteorite into the surrounding area. There are chunks of the Barringer meteor that can be viewed at Meteor Crater, but they were found outside the crater.
