When the Big Bopper is telling Ritchie about Buddy Holly chartering the plane, he states that it's just for the headliners. Really Buddy Holly charted the plane for himself and his band mates Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup. Waylon gave up his seat on the plane to the Big Bopper who was sick with the flu and wanted to get some rest. While Tommy Allsup lost the seat in a coin toss with Ritchie.
