A Los Angeles Television station has call letters beginning with a W. Only Television and radio stations east of the Mississippi River start with a W. West of the river, stations start with a K. However, prior to 1923 there were numerous W stations west of the Mississippi River and these were allowed to keep their W call sign. An example is WOAI in San Antonio, Texas (which is still operating both TV and Radio) So, it would be possible for a station in California to have a W call sign.
