Since the car was stolen, the car key, which was original, should still have been in the possession of the first owner. It couldn't have been found underneath the body.
Except if the key was stolen first, or the key was left in the car, either in the ignition or above the windshield shade, under the mat, etc., and since that was never established, not a plot hole.
