When Ethan's breaking in while Biocyte's owner is getting forced into giving away stock Ethan throws what looks to be a pipe bomb at the door and then shoots it to make it explode. Pipe bombs are usually made with black powder filled in a tube with end caps on both ends and a wick drilled through a hole in one of them which is then lit, the black powder ignites and the pressure blows it. But no matter what the mixture is it would not explode from being shot.
