At the end, the Uzbekistani ambassador almost buys the school. The movie is set in 1956, when Uzbekistan was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, represented diplomatically by Moscow. Only Ukraine and Belarus were allowed a degree of autonomy back then; both were members of the United Nations despite being part of the Soviet Union.
