Even if Philippe Cousteau died when flying the PBY Catalina seaplane,it is not as depicted in the movie. Cousteau's son was running a leak test of the hull after maintenance of the aircraft. When landing on the Tage River (Portugal), the plane hit a sandbank and dislocated, causing the instant death of his pilot.
