Allowing Bale to retain his hair and beard is strictly a Hollywood vanity. The Egyptians, especially royalty, were uncompromising about personal cleanliness. They shaved themselves thoroughly and wore wigs. Nobody in the court of Ramses would've been allowed such an unsanitary affectation.
