Churchill advises Bertie to not come to the throne as King Albert because "Albert" is "too German". This is not likely to be why the Duke chose to reign as King George, who wished to pay tribute to his own father George V. It has been said that it was due to an order by Queen Victoria banning any King Alberts, but the Queen certainly had no objection to her successors being called King Albert Edward and King Albert Victor. As evidence, her grandson Prince Albert Victor, the heir apparent, was born and named after her husband Prince Albert had died.
