When the three bandits get away out the back side of the burning house after the failed robbery attempt at the Wells Fargo office at night, the men who had the whole town staked out didn't even attempt to stop them. There is no way they would have left the back of the house unguarded for so long, after burning them out they would have the house surrounded.
