Tony Stark is not eligible to receive the medal he is awarded at the end of the film. The medal shown is the Army Distinguished Service Medal. The Army Distinguished Service Medal can only be awarded to non-members of the United States Armed Forces for wartime services, and only then under exceptional circumstances with the express approval of the president. There are civilian awards for valor that would have been appropriate.
