When Alex and Rocky shut themselves in Emma's bedroom, they realize they are trapped because there are bars on all of the windows. However, when the dog bursts in it charges at Alex and he falls through a former gap/window in the wall that had been covered with some sheet rock and paint. It had been painted over so Alex and Rocky did not know it had formerly been an opening or window.
