Police officers that are hired are given all of their equipment (gun, badge, uniform, gunbelt) at one time. The movie showing the "rookie" officer standing before the chief in full uniform and him giving her a gun and badge after deciding to hire her was inaccurate. A plausible writing example would be for her to appear in plain clothing and be told she was being hired.
