The characters that are carried over from the original I.D. film are not old enough in this one. The original I.D. was set in the mid 1980's around 30 years prior to the setting of this film (but the characters in both films only appear to be around 20 years older, reflecting the age difference of the actors). In particular Trevor, already a Sergeant in the first film, should be around 70 and well over police retirement age by this one.
