When Ray hot wires the truck at the appliance store he puts two wires together, they spark, he twists them together and the truck starts. In fact, he should have twisted the ignition wires together (no spark), then touched the starter wires together (they would spark) to start the engine, then taken them apart again and the engine would keep running. Also, since modern vehicles have the ignition on the steering column, hot wiring would leave him unable to steer.
