When Groot puts the bomb in Ego's brain, Ego (in his human form) fights Quill trying for deactivate the bomb and avoid his death. This is a complete non-sense: since that Ego is the own planet and his human appearance just an extension of him (not himself), Ego should be perfectly capable to alter the matter around his brain to capture Groot and deactivate the bomb without a need to fight Star-Lord. The evidence of it is seen during this fight when Drax, in the surface, is engulfed by the ground under his feet while he tried to save Mantis taking her to the starship, in the same way that Gamora and Nebula are engulfed by the matter around them while they were trying escape from Ego's depths.
