Sam in Moria, and later Aragorn at Amon Hen, are alerted to approaching Orcs by the glowing of Frodo's sword, Sting. However, in both cases Sting is sheathed, and the sheath doesn't glow. Frodo doesn't draw it until the others have alerted him to the danger.
