When Evan goes to dry the girls' clothes he puts them into, and eventually takes them out of, the washer and not the dryer. All front-loading washers in the U.S. (with the exception of Electrolux, which can open either way, but this one is not that type) open to the left. While dryer doors can be altered to open toward either direction, they do not have, nor need, the water retaining gasket that is seen as Evan takes the clothes out.
