Early in the film, the camera makes a point of showing the nurse drop the one scientific instrument that can determine what is safe to eat. This plot element is never referenced again. When they all get drunk on fermented berry juice, they do so with no way of knowing if it is safe to drink. Later, they kill a small bipedal dinosaur and a character mentions that they ate it (off-screen). Actually, it is very unlikely that a life form on another planet could supply the nutrients necessary to sustain a human.
