These kids could be Darwin Award nominees. According to the one paper map they brought (before it was partially burned), they could have driven to within about an hour's walk of the village ruins instead of a meandering two-day hike. Also, everyone has a smartphone but nobody thought to upload an offline map before going off the grid.
