MCAS El Toro is shown in the movie in the middle of the desert. MCAS El Toro, which has since been closed, was in Orange County, just north of two very busy freeways (I5 and the 405) and surrounded by sprawling suburban cities of Irvine and Laguna Hills. Before it closed in 1999, it was possible to see F18s landing while driving down those freeways. It is now known and occupied by the Orange County Great Park.
