The pistol used by the leader of the Russians in the movie is a 'C96 Broomhandle Mauser'. The very earliest version of that pistol was produced in 1896, hence the '96' in the name. King Solomon's mines and Alan Quatermain is set circa 1860, almost 40 years before the C96 pistol was available.
