This film shows how Fury lost the use of his left eye. Captain America: The Winter Soldier features a photograph of Fury being sworn in as director of SHIELD, clearly at a later time than this film. In that photograph, his left eye is in perfect working order.While we have not seen any footage of Fury from the period between this movie and his assumption of the directorship of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Coulson presented him with a case of glass eyes at the end of the movie, Fury could not have been using a glass eye when he took directorship of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it is shown in Captain America: Winter Soldier that under his eye patch is his original (non-working) eye.
