When Comodos is arguing with the senators one of them suggests that there seems to be some problems with 'the plague' in some neighborhood of Rome, and that the emperor should think of some hygienic measures to solve this. In fact, at that time there was no knowledge of the mechanism of transmission of diseases and their relation to sanitary conditions.
