Before Mike replaces a fuse with a dummy one to disable the burglar alarm he switches the electricity off but the lights are still on and the lift still works.This is quite possible, the lift and lights will be on their own circuits and have different fuses (lift on a three phase supply), it enables work to be carried out with lighting and power available.
