During the final battle, the air transport flies into Paris with a brilliant white spotlight illuminating the ground ahead. However, we had just seen the pilot using Forward Looking InfraRed (FLIR) technology to guide them in the dark. If they have FLIR, there is no reason for the visible light (except to provide the Mimics with advance warning of their approach).
