(at around 2h) Whitmore attempts to nuke the aliens, but their protective force field holds. Once the force field has been deactivated, all the President has at his disposal is a squadron of FA-18 hornets with an insufficient supply of conventional missiles. Suddenly they're fresh out of nukes? Also why use planes at all, when ballistic ordnance such as cruise missiles launched at much greater range could have handled the assignment without the risk to life.
