All the characters within the Grid world have names that come from something to do with computer programming. The program named "CROM" should actually be named "CRON", which is a command line function to add, run or remove scheduled tasks on a computer. It's possible that the writers changed the name to not be as close to the title character's name. It's also possible the writers used it correctly, but someone misinterpreted it somewhere during development.
