Miller's use of the word "bandwidth" to mean mental attention or capability would not have been used or understood in the early 1990s. The concept was not discussed publicly until Ruby Payne's work on poverty and education in the mid-1990s. Even then, it took decades for the concept to spread out from academics into the general lexicon.
