When the officer is investigating the open motel room, he notices the broken TV first. However, on his way out of the room, the TV cuts on to one of the snuff films, and shows absolutely no signs of damage and works perfectly fine.The officer finds the shattered TV in the first motel room he searches. The working TV with the snuff film is in the second motel room he searches after passing between the rooms through the shared passage door. It's the light from the working TV, as seen under the passage door, that draws the officer's attention to search the second room.
