The opening attack on the ship by enemy aircraft has the captain giving instructions to fire. His directions are with phrases like "11 o'clock..fire!...12 o'clock...fire!", each repeated into a telephone after a slight delay by a junior officer. No navy uses '11 o'clock'-type directions, they would use compass bearings or else either degrees or compass points off the bow or stern.
