This movie undermines its own premise by claiming that Billy is humanity's only hope because he's "pure in heart" even though he is later shown using his powers for evil by stealing from the ATM. No one ever says Billy is "pure of heart." He even tells the wizard he's not one of the "good, pure people" he's looking for, and he's not sure they exist. The wizard makes Billy humanity's champion because after Sivana steals the Eye of Sin and releases the Seven Deadly Sins, the wizard is now dying, the world is in danger, and there is no time to look for someone better. Billy goes on to do some selfish things with his powers as Shazam, even taking money from an ATM, but while wrong, none of it comes close to the evil of Sivana's actions. Later, Billy demonstrates real heroism and selflessness by saving a bus full of passengers after his showing off causes an accident, by giving himself up when Sivana takes his foster siblings hostage, and by sharing his powers with his foster siblings so they can save the crowd at the winter carnival and defeat Sivana and the Sins.
