If Soran wanted to go into the Nexus, he did not have to go to such extreme lengths such as blowing up two stars and committing genocide in order to do so. It seems that simply standing in front of the Nexus and allowing it to pass over you is enough to enter it. So why didn't Soran simply beam himself into space, wearing a spacesuit, directly in the Nexus's path? Of course, the writers had to use a more contrived method or there would be no story to the film.
