When Ripley gets the shuttle at the end, there is clearly a shot with the windows being at the front of the shuttle, which is where she sits to pilot it. When the Nostromo explodes, she faces the blast. This is because she did not launch the shuttle forward. She detached from the Nostromo and braked the shuttle with the thrusters at its nose. The Nostromo, which was traveling through space the entire time, continued on, as is clearly shown in the front windows.
