The picture on John surveillance camera changes, sometimes zoomed in, sometimes zoomed out. While there might be some possibility for him to adjust the zoom, there's no way he can change the direction of the camera (set down in a nearby hotel room). John would have to accept the center point of the image to where Mike aimed it. John would not be able to change the camera's direction and zoom into specific details he'd like to see.
