Dr Carson Beckett wears a Scottish flag patch on his sleeve. Scotland is one of the four Home Nations of the UK, with its own semi-autonomous parliament, but is not an independent country. A UK citizen would therefore normally be expected to have a Union Flag (a.k.a., 'Union Jack') patch.
