As the dormitory is suddenly flooded with water, there is nowhere for the bulk of all the air to go. And even when smaller bubbles start to float up, they don't accumulate on the ceiling lights or the rafters. However, the room is specifically designed for this test. So there is obviously some hidden mechanism to let the air out, just as there's one to pump the water in.
