Damon argues at one point that television had been telling people what to do and how to think "for fifty years." That doesn't make sense for when the film was made (1987) OR when it is set (2018-2019). Fifty years before 1987 is 1937, and fifty years before before 2019 is 1969. In reality, television began to have cultural power in the late 1940s and early 1950s (at least in the United States).
