It's never made clear why Blake or his men try to kill Nick when they knock on Nick's door, or Stevie later on at the lighthouse, since the whole premise is that they came back as ghosts to take revenge on the descendants of the conspirators who caused their deaths in 1880, and Nick and Stevie were not descendants of the conspirators.
