On the initial stages of the approach still at several thousand feet and well above cloudbase, the aircraft lurches violently (not typical of a power loss anyway) and the pilot confirms he's run out of fuel. ATC tells him he can glide in. In a matter of a few seconds, while the pilot is wresting with the controls with 2 hands and semi-panicking trying to work out why he's lost power the aircraft is reconfigured to gear and nose shield down and probably an altitude of around 2000 feet and the external shot shows a nose high approach attitude which would quickly lead to a stall with no thrust from the engines. The next external shot clearly shows black smoke emitting from all 4 engines which are clearly providing considerable power despite supposedly having cut due to the tanks being empty. Shortly before touchdown, ATC instructs the pilot to "throttle back! throttle back! throttle back!" despite knowing that the engines had cut.
