Anesthesia for the operation, a craniotomy, appears to be non-existent. Even if the film maker's intention was that the patient was given a single intravenous injection off-screen, in reality, anesthesia for a craniotomy is highly complex and requires the constant presence and action of an anesthetist. But Dean isn't exactly operating under state medical board regulation.
