In the movie the garrison gets a large supply of powder and muskets by killing a sympathizer to Santa Anna named Emil Sande, and taking his cache hidden in the basement of the church.The Alamo garrison was equipped largely with weapons abandoned by Mexican troops in 1835, when General Cos surrendered his command to the Texians.
