The opening scene shows the boys driving and shooting signs in broad daylight while the clock in the radio station reads 7:28 p.m. Later it is shown that this happened sometime during the third week of October, when sunset in Dallas was at about 6:45 CDT. By 7:28, it should have been near dark.
