The bulkhead doors are all constructed so that they "open" towards the air lock. They should have been constructed in such a way that any kind of decompression would swing the doors shut and keep the doors shut, thereby sealing the damaged part of the ship from the rest of the ship. The antagonist blows open at least four bulkhead doors with the explosive bullets with his gun, including the inner door to the airlock, allowing the oxygen inside the ship to escape due to the inner doors that will not swing shut due to the outer hatch being open and venting air into outer space.
