At approximately 1 hour and 7-11 minutes into the film, there is a scene where Brian Aherne's character Garrick (while snooping) overhears the play actor pretending to be a blacksmith reading a note in the barn stating he, the blacksmith is to throw egotistical actor The Great Garrick/Aherne into the lake to embarrass him, teach him a lesson in humility and strike then anvil with his hammer to signal the deed is done to the near by acting troop ... we next see someone wearing the blacksmith's dark hat, dark clothes, dirty hands, and arms carrying a hammer with blood discovered on it. (the audience may suppose it's Aherne but it's not!) The blacksmith appearing person stumbles in appearing drunk, states Garrick's body is floating face down in the water and passes out. After the small crowd of actors recovers from their shock over things going too far they start to make plans to cover-up this crime. But surprise, the dark man stands up, and it's Brian Aherne taking off his hat and dark wig claiming he was just pretending to be the other man. But, it was the other actor played by Trevor Bardette that came into the room and sat down at the table and in editing the filmmaker switched to Aherne later standing up from the table to "prove he was an amazing actor." But it was not him and once he stand up you'll see both his arms and hands are clean -- not like the blacksmith's that we saw in the barn or when he entered the inn just 3 minutes earlier. Watch the shape of their mouths when they peak and laugh, two different actors in the same scene just minutes and editing apart. This continuity error may not have been noticed in the original 1937 release, but in today's age of big screens in the home, DVDs and the ability to rewind and zoom in this flaw was found and is here by exposed.
