When Kevin gets on the plane, the flight attendant gives the departure announcement while someone outside closes the door. On American Airlines, this would not be allowed. She would have been required to close and lock the door from the inside while someone else gave the flight announcements. This is because the safety features in the door cannot be armed from outside the plane. The people operating the boarding bridge never shut the plane door themselves.
